Membership of Sheffield City Library is free - and you will be able to access a wide range of books, ebooks, music, film, computers and other resources for members.
You can join the library in two ways:
- Online by completing the application form on Sheffield City Council portal.
- In person by completing an application form at Broomhill Community Library or any local library or the Central Library.

Join as an Adult
You need to show one form of identification including a photo or address. (To use Sheffield Archives, you will be asked for 2 proofs of identification, to include your name, address and signature).
If you genuinely cannot show proof of address, you can still join but with limited borrowing rights - see our Adults without Identification section.
Join as a child under 16 years of age
If your parent/carer is present when you join, they will be asked to sign the application form.
If your parent/carer is not present when you join, you will be able to take out up to two items when you join and your card and a letter will be posted out to your parent/carer. When you next visit a library with the card, you will have full borrowing rights.
Join as a Young Adult aged 16 or 17 years
You need to show one form of identification including a photo or address and you can start borrowing straight away.
If you genuinely cannot show proof of address, you can still join, but with limited borrowing rights - see our Adults without Identification section.
Join as an Adult without Identification
If you cannot show one form of identification you will be given limited borrowing rights.
Request a PIN
You will need a PIN to reserve or renew items online. If you do not have a PIN or have lost/forgotten it you can request your PIN online.
