Regular Children's Activities during term time

During term time, join us for children's events: 
Monday 2 - 3pm       Storytime for 2 to 4 year olds - story and fun time
Tuesday 10 -11am    Baby & Toddler time - music, singing, stories, play
Friday 4 - 5.15pm       Art & Craft for 5+ year olds

60th Anniversary Celebrations

Our 60th anniversary celebrations continue through to October. The Lord Mayor came to the library on 12th September and cut the fantastic cake that Sofia had made for us. More events for all ages coming up - see the attached flyer. Remember our book sale is ongoing - fantastic bargains for all!

Anniversary Book Sale

Our Anniversary Book Sale starts at 10.00am on Friday 8 September and will run until 4.00pm on Saturday 16 September. We will have a huge stock of donated and ex-library books on display  on the ground floor, upstairs and in the newly accessible basement area next to the rear garden. You may be particularly interested in our collection of vintage books published from the 1920s to the 1950s. We also have a few vintage Wentworth jigsaws still remaining for sale. Prices from 50p to £2.50 there will something for everyone.

URGENT! HELP NEEDED FOR A WORKING PARTY [30 AUG - 6 SEPT]

Could you come along at some point? Do you know someone with the expertise?
For: Clean up and decorating of basement rooms, painting garage doors, garden tidy up, preparing displays.

Explore Learning Literary Workshop

Tutors from Explore Learning will host a Literary Workshop for 8-11 year olds on Friday 11 August 2017 at 11.00am. This is free for library members and A Day at the Zoo will support the continuing Summer Reading Challenge theme of Animal Agents. This activity will attract credits for the Children's University so please bring your passports. Places are limited so please book on 0114 273 4276 or enquiries@broomhill-library.org.uk 

Dementia Awareness Session

There will be a Dementia Awareness Session at Broomhill Community Library on Wednesday 19th July 11.00 am to approx 12 noon for those interested in finding out more about the condition. Please note that this session will be in the Children's Library, which is upstairs and we are sorry but there is no lift.

Half Term activity - Create a character

What would your character look like? Where do they live and what sort of adventures do they have? Your entry should be a piece of writing together with either a drawing, model or puppet. Prizes awarded at the Great Get together at St Mark's Church on Saturday 17th June. Entry fee £1 per entry. CLOSING DATE 10th June.

Open Garden - Saturday 10th June 2 - 4.30 pm

Join us on Saturday afternoon at the Library to see the pretty front gardens and learn about the lost secret garden behind the library and our plans to restore it. Guided tours with Jill Sinclair at 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm. Garden trail for children, books for sale and fair trade stall. Donations please.

Join Lydia Monks, the best selling illustrator of 'What the Ladybird Heard' and her new friends Mouse, Mole, Frog, Rabbit and their teacher Miss Hoot for an interactive storytelling and illustration session in the treetop school. It's Mouse's first day.....
Special glittery appearances from Lydia Monks characters. Books for sale. Lydia will sign books after the event. Tickets £3 on the door. In aid of Broomhill Community Library but the event will be at St Mark's Church Broomhill, Upper Room (postcode S10 2SE)

Local History Walks - Broomhill's Public Houses

Our popular listory walks are again part of the Festival - led this year by Lee Kenny, Eilis Coffey and Judith Pitchforth. We explore the fascinating history of Broomhill's four oldest public houses - the Nottingham House, the Fox and Duck, the York Hotel and the Broomhill Tavern. It's on three times - the same talk but in a different order to spread our custom at the hostelries!! Tickets £5 - payable only on the day.
Tuesday 13th June - 1.45 pm for a 2 pm start - at the Broomhill Tavern
Wednesday 14th June - 1.45 pm for a 2 pm start  - at the York Hotel
Wednesday 14th June - 7.15 pm for 7.30 pm start - at the Fox and Duck.
The walk will last approx 1.5 hours.
