As part of its Wellness program, Broomhill Community Library is excited to announce the Social Gardening Club which encourages socialisation and learning through nature.
Social gardening can help members of our community who may be experiencing isolation, loneliness, or have low-level anxiety and need confidence boosting to help them mix again in the community.
Our facilitator is a trained social horticultural therapist and an RHS level 2 horticulturist. She will be teaching skills to do with nature, floristry, and gardening whilst helping people to socialise.
We encourage interested members to sign up for all 4 sessions so that we can build a small, familiar community for participants. But we understand that not everyone can book for 4 weeks, and there is the option to book fewer sessions.
We suggest that participants are mobile. There will be times when sessions are held in our library basement and then outside during warmer weather.

We're Celebrating 10-years of Volunteer-Run Libraries in Sheffield
On Thursday, 26th September, a group of volunteers from Broomhill Community Library attended the 10th anniversary celebration event of Volunteer Libraries in Sheffield. Representatives from each of the 16 volunteer libraries across the city were thanked for their success and for the many contributions to their communities over the last decade.
During the event, Judith Pitchforth, Chair of Broomhill Community Trust which oversees the running of the library, was asked to share her thoughts about being a library volunteer. You can read Judith's remarks here.
Enjoy this video celebrating the ten-year anniversary of volunteer-run libraries in Sheffield.
This BBC article from September 4th, discusses how volunteer libraries have evolved into community hubs, with a focus on Sheffield libraries and an interview with Judith Pitchforth.
