Learning at Broomhill Community Library
Learning at Broomhill Community Library
Learning new skills boosts our confidence, gives us each a sense of achievement, and provides opportunities to socialise and meet new people. Our programme of activities invites people to try learning a new skill. Our volunteer and work experience programmes provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn new skills, teach others, and to make a valuable contribution to our library and gardens.
Activities to promote learning
Creative Writing Group
Tea, Talk, and Tots
Crafternoons
Coffee, Cake, and Chat
Student Work Experience
Our work experience opportunities include for offering placements to sixth formers and Sheffield UTC students, Duke of Edinburgh participants, Sheffield University undergraduate and postgraduate students. Students' work directly contribute to the work of the library. Current student work experience placements involve students in:
Creating a new Directory of Community Resources website
Helping us to use social media more effectively to promote the library and its programme
Conducting various business analyses to inform our strategic planning
Learning as a Volunteer
Working as a volunteer at the library helps people to build confidence and gain experience working with others. For members of the community who are new to the UK, this experience helps them become more familiar with our culture, strengthen their English language skills and employment opportunities, and feel better integrated in the local community.
