Our Dementia Commitments - Sheffield
Broomhill Community Library is proud to be a member of Our Dementia Commitments - Sheffield which helps organisations take simple steps to make their environments more inclusive and supportive for people living with dementia and their carers. We recently completed the requirements to be listed as a bronze-level dementia-friendly organisation.
We've installed dementia-friendly information signs above all the bookshelves.
We've decluttered and clearly display information on public facing noticeboards.
We use bright and natural lighting as much as possible.
We make sure that glass doors are clearly marked.
We offer a number of quiet seating areas in the library.
In addition:
We have appointed a Dementia Advocate who is responsible for leading dementia-related initiatives and activities.
We are mindful of noise levels. The library is generally a quiet place. Specific dementia-friendly events would be held at less busy times or when the library is closed to the public.
Toilet amenities are clearly marked and well stocked.
Library staff wear clear name badges
We're in the process of installing a large, analogue clock with date and time
We aim to set up a Dementia information area and to promote dementia-friendly activities, events, and resources.
